The Mersey Soccer Club has a limited number of spaces available on its teams.
Regististration is on a first come basis. Tryouts are not required although prior playing experience is recommended beyond the under 6 and 7 age levels.
Ages 6 to 9
The formation chosen for this age group should be 7v7 and 8v8. The make up of the team will consist of 6 or 7 out field players and a goalkeeper.
As part of their on going development with the Mersey Soccer Club players will learn about team formation and teach shape. At this stage players begin to process the importance ofspacial awareness and begin to understand clumping is not the best way to play soccer.
The soccer rules are interpreted more strictly. Having graduated beyond the under 7 micro soccer division; goalkeepers, offside and throw- ins are introduced as part of the game.
In keeping with the more formal approach the players 8 and older may be required to have league identity passes and neutral officials are now expected to regulate the rules on the field of play.
Ages 10 to 12
The final stage of development is the 9 v 9 game. The fields are longer and wider. A player's physical finess becomes more of an issue as the amount of running involved increases.
The Mersey house teams play their league games locally usually within 20 minutes drive .
